  39. I'll post the code, it's not long.   It's got a few hacks in it they others
  40. may find interesting.  Note that I use Mark Williams C.  The code is
  41. probably not directly portable as it depends on the order in which parameters
  42. are passed.  You'll need to check on such things before using any other
  43. compiler, but you should have no trouble.

  52. RegentBase is NOT required.  Tool basically gives you one function by
  53. which you pass SQL statements and get back results.  You can create
  54. tables and do queries, including the various types of joins.   SELECTs
  55. which return multiple rows do not behave in the usual manner.

  57. Like you said, don't expect much.  But for $25, it's a good hack.

  79. While i was testing my formatter i built a 32 meg partition on one
  80. disk.  To test it I filled up by copying  my 16 meg C: partition to it
  81. twice.  The setup is source C: on drive 1 (SCSI 0) and destination G:
  82. on drive 2 ( SCSI 1).  After 16-20 meg of copying, it gets noticeably SLOW!
  83. I suspect this is a consequence of clusters being allocated 1 at a time
  84. and the FAT bewritten after each allocation.

  86. Oh well, its nice to know that TOS1.4 will support 32 MEG.  Its just not
  87. time effective to make partitions that large when one can easily put
  88. 12 partitions on a disk.

  102. I use WordUp for wordprocessing and I like it a lot. I have a wonderfull matrix
  103. printer which can print at 360*360 dpi(NEC-emulation), emulate IBM ProPrinter,
  104. NEC P-series and Epson LQ-series. It is Citizen Swift 24. I must say that I am
  105. still impressed by the crispness of the output but it ain't no speed demon with
  106. 360*360 dpi. Waiting almost 20 minutes for a single page isn't very practical
  107. for drafts (not for ribbon either). As all WordUp users know draft graphic
  108. printing isn't reality (except for Deskjet). Well, I thougth, I have Epson LQ
  109. emulation so why not make  different assign.sys files for NEC-emulation and
  110. Epson LQ-emulation.

  112.  I just installed WordUp twice with different printers and now I have two
  113. different GDOS.SYS-files (one is GDOS.NEC the other one GDOS.LQ, you have to
  114. rename them yourself). With G+Plus accesory I made also two Assign.ins-files
  115. (WUP_NEC.INS and WUP_LQ.INS). Now when ever I start wordprocessing I use
  116. Epson LQ for drafts (if you want to call 180*180 dpi draft <-) and when I am
  117. happy with my work, I quit WordUp, change INS-file to WUP_NEC.INS with G+Plus
  118. and start WordUp again. Then I tell Swift to emulate NEC  and start printing.
  119. Result  : 360*360 dpi document.

  121. I also tried using Epson FX-emulation (under Epson LQ-emulation), but it
  122. doesn't work properly ( the hight of the text and graphics increases by factor
  123. 1.2 (about) ). But under IBM-emulation it works. Now I have also a 120*144 dpi
  124. draft. Like ST, Swift can emulate almost everything.

  126. So if you have a printer which can emulate  a less-dpi printer (and have a
  127. GDOS-driver) give it a try. Think of it, I saved 112680 Dots Per Square Inch
  128. (from 129600 down to 16920). This should work for other GDOS-programs too.

  148. TOS 1.6 is the version of TOS for the mythical 1040STe.
  149. That much has already been said by Atari.

  173. The PC-Speed board I mentioned contains a v30 chip and I saw a socket which
  174. I believe is for a co-processor. I am not sure of the clock speed. It runs
  175. CGA graphics and emulates the Hercules in mono mode. I was told that the
  176. screen display on a mono Atari monitor is extremely impressive. Far better
  177. than the standard Atari screen which is already crisp. As I get more details

  215.    We have recently acquired a hard disk and several software utilities
  216. for our 1 MB Atari 1040ST (at the recent WAACO).  This has us wondering
  217. about the the possibilities for a RAM upgrade, perhaps to 2.5 MBytes.
  218. The prices which we have seen for such an upgrade vary by quite a bit,
  219. being between $305 and over $400 (US).  So, now a list:
  220.  
  221.    A) Is such a RAM upgrade desirable?  Our Atari serves both for games
  222. and desktop publishing.  The utilities/accessories might be expected to
  223. occupy up to 0.25 MBytes.
  224.  
  225.    B) What is the difference between the solderless and conventional
  226. upgrades?  Is a solderless upgrade merely a DRAM swap?
  227.  
  228.    C) What about the extra heat generated by all those RAM's in such a
  229. small (ST) box?  Is it substantially greater than for the standard 1 MB?
  230.  
  231.    D) Do you have any recommended places for us to consider having such
  232. an upgrade performed?  Do they perform an infant mortality test?

  234. Since this is probably a frequently recurring question, a mail reply
  235. might be best.  Thank you for your comments to these questions and the

  266. My system consists of a Mega ST2 upped to 4 megs RAM, both monitors, a Monitor
  267. Master switch box, the SLM804 laser printer and a dual 65 meg drive from
  268. ABCO Computers in FL. And lastly, the Turbo16 from FAST TECHNOLOGY, along with
  269. the TOS 1.4.

  271. And everything works fine. I haven't run into any problems either attributable
  272.  to
  273. the T16 or to TOS 1.4. And I have 3 local friends who has TOS 1.4 with T16,
  274. and none of them are having any problems. I haven't formatted my drive since I
  275. bought it a year ago.

  279. Sorry that I can't help you Peter. I just wanted to let you know that others
  280. don't appear to be having that problem. Did you check your installation??
  281. Oh one thing. It is a known fact that the 74LS373 need to be replaced with
  282. 74AS373, as the AS version has twice the current drive of the older LS
  283. chips. Maybe you should try that?? My dealer does that replacement as part of
  284. his standard installation of TOS 1.4 and the T16.
  285. Give it a shot. Let the net know of your results.
